The out&about pocket guide, gives readers an overview of the jewels in the borough’s crown that tourists can enjoy and residents can rediscover. It’s hoped it will also appeal to the tens of thousands of visitors from around the world expected in the borough during the autumn going to the Rugby World Cup in neighbouring Twickenham.

From historical gems and tales of colourful characters across an area steeped in history to bars and restaurants of note serving up the finest foods from around the globe, the guide is designed to whet the appetite and get people to explore.

Bookended between a brief history of the borough and a taster of some of the best nightlife on offer in the borough are the details of a myriad of festivals that fall on Hounslow soil. Some of the neighbourhoods are profiled in the guide to pique the interest of families thinking of putting down roots in the borough and to shine a light on areas of interest to the casual visitor.

The guide is being  distributed to hotels throughout the borough and to libraries. It is free of charge and designed to be kept as a souvenir of a visitor’s stay. Councillor Steve Curran, leader of Hounslow Council said: “We are very proud of Hounslow and wanted to promote some of the borough’s best kept secrets so that more people can experience them.

“Building the borough the reputation it deserves will of course mean more visitors with the increased benefits to local businesses.

“We hope the guide will help people decide what to do while they are visiting Hounslow and make sure they enjoy all the many good things we have to offer. And there are many suggestions in there for local residents to do too.”
